This is how I remember Grandpa always with a hat always with this half smile. I look at him and see Daddy in his later years, so much resemblance. Edith (far left) was Grandpa’s second wife, he and Grandma Coulter divorced in the kids early years but family members have told me their love never died, only drifted. I remember going to visit Grandpa and Edith twice, perhaps there were move trips but my memory only brings two. Once we entered an apartment through wide steps and I remember Edith had made these wonderful dolls out of paper doilies. She gave me one to bring home. The other visit was when they lived on Venice beach, just steps from the Pacific. I’m sure if I saw where they lived with my adult eyes of today it wouldn’t have been too great a place, but with eyes of a child and the simplify of youth, it was just Grandpa’s place. The lady that lived upstairs made a pan of Enchiladas for us, they were the best I think I’ve ever tasted. I’m glad I got to know my Grandpa and be able to tuck away memories I can pull out many many years later.
